An artist friend of mine, Jennifer Edwards, created a collection of beautiful "tiny tapestries" depicting a variety of waves. They were inspired by a personal experience in which the ebb and flow of life, emotions, and faith seemed to both carry her forward and pull her under. As she shared her experience with me, I was struck by the way she talked about time and memory. She spoke of how our experience of time can sometimes feel like past, present, and future are folding and enfolding over themselves, so that in a moment you can travel from distant past to immediate future in the blink of a thought. This song is meant to capture both of these images - the ebb and flow of water and wave, and the folded ribbons of time. The album art is a picture of one of her tapestries.
